ARTIST'S CHOICE

Newspaper Advertisement

Photography and Editing by Meggan Greyling

This advertisement, created by me, won first place in the Kingston Whig Standard for Kingston Paint and Decorating. I created this ad trying to use colour as one of my themes. I also used my nephew as a model to make this advertisement friendly and fun. This was an enjoyable assignment for our grade 11 Com Tech class.
Creating this ad with my nephew was a bit difficult. I placed my Nephew on a white sheet with some yellow paint. This was difficult to not let my nephew eat the paint and still be happy at the same time. I used a light to brighten him and took the photographs with a Nikon D5000 Camera. For the background I dipped spoons in colours of paint, placing them in different places to create an interesting perspective and look. I then put the two photographs in Photoshop, editing and erasing the background of my nephew and placing him on the new, colourful background. For the slogan I changed the colour to yellow to connect the colour of the paint to it. I used white for the rest of the text so it was visible but not the main part. This was lots of fun to create and winning first place was icing on the cake.

Commercial Repro

Commercial Reproduction
Filmed and edited by Hayley Dykins and Meggan Greyling

In grade 11, our Com Tech class was assigned to find a commercial we enjoyed and recreate it. This project was very fun because it taught me how much work and time goes into a commercial that is not very long. There are many different shots that you have to take over and over again to get the perfect clip for the ad. For any film you need costumes and lighting in order for the commercial to look nice.
During the making of this Commercial Reproduction, Hayley and I had to count how many shots were in this commercial and we were surprised to find out that there were about a dozen shots. We had to film each shot individually which took time. We also had to use my sister, Melissa, as the little girl at the end of the commercial. The filming of this took a couple of hours and the editing took a bit longer. We had to time everything correctly to the audio of the original commercial using Final Cut Pro. We had to lock the audio on the original commercial while deleting the video of it and placing our video on top. This project was fun to accomplish and very funny to watch in the end as my friend and I try to be little boys.

Water PSA

Water PSA
Filmed and edited by Hayley Dykins and Meggan Greyling

This Public Service Announcement was a project given to our grade 11 Com Tech class in order to raise awareness on conserving water. It was interesting to come up with a short film to show that we need to turn off our taps when we can and use our water wisely. We were separated into groups of two and in charge of creating an original idea that would catch someones attention and show them how we can save water.
The mirror shot in this film was very hard to take but was a very cool look.  We had to stand in the small bathroom, using a Manfrotto Tripod and a Vixa HF s100 HD Video Camera, trying to make sure I or the camera were not in the shot. The ending music was also written and recorded by us as well to add a nice feel to it. Hayley and I really enjoyed doing this project. This project was edited on Final Cut Pro and the beginning music was imported from Soundtrack Pro.
